Frequently Asked Questions
Who are your clients, and are you accepting new clients?
We work closely with a select group of clients from around the world. Among them are independent producers, studio and streamer-based producers, showrunners, financiers, studios, management companies, and talent and filmmaker-led production companies.
We’re always open to finding a way to work with companies and creatives eager to have world-class access to IP and expertise. Send us an email and we’ll get the conversation started: hello@pragmaticpictures.com.
How does IP scouting work?
Thanks to our longstanding relationships with literary agents, publishers, film/tv agents, writers, journalists and others in the publishing/media/film & tv ecosystem, we source material—manuscripts, articles, podcasts, and everything else—and intelligence to give our clients and partners an early and strategic look at stories that might be great for them to produce on the screen.
But finding material and presenting regular reports is just the start. We offer a pragmatic (forgive the pun!), creative, comprehensive, and strategic approach that saves clients time and expands their creative reach. With decades of experience across scouting, literary representation and story development and production, we provide clients a creative and strategic point of view on material beyond just a list of books.
Do you hire interns?
We do! Our interns get a first-hand look at how material is identified and how film & tv projects come together. They read manuscripts and write coverage, help out with special research projects, and help us keep the trains running on time while learning about story development and the business of creating films & series.
Our intern program is unpaid and for credit through an accredited college or university. We typically make selections in the middle of each semester for the following semester (Fall, Spring, and Summer). Interns work remotely and typically join us for one or two days a week.
If you’re interested in being considered for our next cohort, please reach out with a resume and a sample of coverage or other applicable work to hello@pragmaticpictures.com. No phone calls, please.
Do you ever engage readers for coverage?
Of course! We work with a trusted cadre of freelance story analysts, but we’re always interested in meeting new people. If you’re in the business of reading manuscripts for film/TV producers (particularly if you also read French, Spanish, Italian, Korean, or Japanese), please feel free to introduce yourself with a CV and a sample to hello@pragmaticpictures.com. We’ll be in touch as opportunities come along.
I’m the author of a fantastic new novel or a brilliant spec/pilot script and I’m looking for a literary agent. Do you represent writers?
We don’t. We do work with some writers and other represented creatives on a referral basis on special projects, but we aren’t agents or managers.
